Cinema Concert, which has become a representative program of JIMFF since 2006, resurrects the most primitive form of film music by simultaneous screening and live music performance. At the 12th JIMFF, 〈Steamboat Bill, Jr.〉, a silent comedy film by the famous classic comedy actor Buster Keaton and 〈The Freshman〉 starring Harold Lloyd will be screened for two days accompanied by the live performance of Ben Model, a USA silent film accompanist.
Performer - Ben Model
Ben Model is one of the nation's leading silent film accompanists, and works accompanying silent films in a wide variety of venues around the USA and internationally, carrying on a tradition he learned from the silent film organist Lee Erwin(1919-2000). Over the past 30+ years Ben has created and performed live scores for several hundred silent films, films lasting anywhere from one minute to five hours. Ben is a resident film accompanist at the Museum of Modern Art(NY) and at the Library of Congress' Packard Campus Theatre.
