International Competition 


‘World Music Film Today’ introduces latest films across all genres in which music plays a central role. A jury of five international members will select one film to receive the LOTTE Award, which is accompanied by 20 million KRW prizes. The selection of 2018 includes two narrative films and five documentaries. This year, two dramas and five documentary films will be screened: < Malambo, the Good Man >, a drama that unveils a story of a Malambo dancer; < Sheikh Jackson >, a comedy featuring a Muslim preacher who once admired and dreamed to be like Michael Jackson; < Ethiopiques - Revolt of the Soul >, a film about the world of Ethiopian music which was influenced by the Western world in the 60’s; < When God Sleeps >, a documentary about an Iranian musician who had to go into exile because of singing rebellious songs; < Stammering Ballad >, capturing the disappearing of Chinese folk song; and < Up Down & Sideways >, introducing agricultural work music of India, and so on. Through various films of all subjects and genres that feature music as means of communication, this section provides a snapshot of the latest trend in world music films.
