Music InSight section is a newly established competition focusing on Korean feature film music, highlighting the artistic achievements of film composers and showcasing the creative worlds of established professionals. Eligible works are Korean feature films produced since January 2024. Among the finalists, one composer will receive a prize of 20 million KRW and a trophy. This section transcends mere competition, serving as a platform to select the defining work of the year in Korean film music—uncovering artistic peaks shaped by creative depth and struggle.
To mark its 20th anniversary since 2006, the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival granted voting rights to all graduates of Jecheon International Music & Film Academy(JIMFA), a renowned incubator of film composers. Of 703 alumni from the 1st to 19th sessions, 102 participated, resulting in seven films advancing to the final round. These are Love In The Big City by director E.oni and music director Choi Donghoon; Victory by director Park Beom-su and music director Kim Dongwook; Idiot Girls and School Ghost: School Anniversary by director Kim Minha and music director Lee Geonho; FIREFIGHTERS by director Kwak Kyungtaek and music director Mok Yeongjin; Exhuma by director Jang Jae-hyun and music director Kim Taeseong; HARBIN by director Woo Min-ho and music director Cho Young-wuk; and Escape by director Lee Jong-pil and music director Dalpalan.
Through these seven films—celebrated by active and aspiring film musicians alike—we discern the current landscape of Korean film music and glimpse its future direction. Audiences attending the 21st Jecheon International Music & Film Festival will experience the most powerful moments in Korean film music that resonated on screen throughout the past year.
