Program Note
Victory, based on the true story of the 'Saebitdeul' cheerleading team from Geoje High School in 1984, is set in late 1999 Geoje and tells the story of high school girls who form a cheerleading club and grow together. Fundamentally a lively and spirited sports drama, it is also a musical film that captures the sentiment of the era. Music director Kim Dongwook's score is not merely evoke nostalgia but enriches the narrative. In particular, the film¡¯s frequent use of representative 1990s Korean pop music, synth-pop, dance beats, and retro brass sound captures the mood of the time while simultaneously driving the rhythm and emotion of the story.
