Program Note
Based on a true story of a fire in a multi-family house in Hongje-dong, Seoul, in 2001, during which six firefighters lost their lives when the building collapsed. The director revisits this incident and questions how much our society has truly progressed since then. The film's depiction of the chaotic fire scene, filled with thick black smoke and close to reality, conveys the characters¡¯ struggles and tragedy. Rather than making the audience cry, the film aims to leave a lasting resonance, a tone completed by music director Mok Yeongjin's original soundtrack. Through Park Hyoshin's evocative voice in the song Hero, the film expresses the nobility of ordinary heroes—the firefighters. (Lee Hwajung)
