New Talent section is a competition spotlighting creative and experimental emerging film composers working on their first or second projects in Korean feature or short films produced since January 2023. Among the finalists, one composer will be awarded a prize of 10 million KRW and a trophy.
This year, Jecheon International Music & Film Festival presents three feature films and eight short films, carefully selected through preliminary screening from submissions. The lineup includes The Last Woman on Earth by directors Yeum Moonkyoung and Lee Jongmin, with music by Yeum Jimin; PULL UP by director Mok Chunghun and music director Kim Ymir; Heliography of Memories by director Youk Doyoon and music director Seo Donghyeon; Mojori, co-directed by Lee Sungbong and Kim Woohyun, with music by Lee Sungbong; Will o' the Wisp by director Yang Eunkyung and music director OHELEN; The Possessed by director Son Taegyum and music director Jin Minho; Mistletoe by director Hwang Hyeonjee and music director Lee Jane; Eyelevel by director Lee Dongwon and music director Young; After School Ring by director Jeon Seahoon and music director Lee Eon; The Game of Sisyphus by director Kim Chaehyun and music director Youm Seungho; and Gravity of Living, co-directed by Hur Jungjae and Yoon Heesub, with music by Yoon Heesub.
Though these eleven creators may be unfamiliar now, their promising first steps carry a delicate vibration that hints at the future of Korean cinema and film music. Through the New Talent section, Jecheon International Music & Film Festival not only selects and awards emerging composers but also provides a space to showcase their first works—potentially remembered as masterpieces—and the breadth of their creative potential.
