Program Note
In her sophomore feature, Roder continues to investigate Bhutanese women's agency, weaving an eery doppelgänger narrative into a sombre story of misogynistic abuse. Music plays a central role, infusing the film and serving as a channel of healing and transmission. The protagonist's transformative journey unfolds into a haunting meditation on identity, sorority and resilience. With an assured intensity the film draws strength from its deep cultural roots, opening to much wider spaces. (Benjamin Illos)
