Program Note
Is the unexpected fragility of consciousness a comfort or a threat? The film begins with voice actress Isabel's voice layered over images of others. After scenes where Isabel's inner voice in her native language flows over her silent image, it ends with a raw outburst of her inner self expressed through song. Unable to endure the siege of the unconscious any longer, Isabel confronts her deceased mother and child in a pivotal location. The film uses its narrative to embody the painful encounter between consciousness and unconsciousness—the process behind a piece of music and a film, and the moment of their creation. (Lee Wanmin)
