Program Note
This documentary captures the lives and music of Afro-Mexican musicians in Costa Chica, where land, sea, tradition, and humanity intertwine. Their music reflects the identity of a centuries-old community and its deep bonds with nature and people. Focusing on their music, the director weaves voices, expressions, gestures, and natural sounds into an audiovisual portrait of Afro-Mexican culture¡¯s vitality and rhythm. Music speaks louder than words, rhythm more than explanation, testifying to how this culture has endured—and will continue. A beautiful soundscape of their unique music and a dignified record of a living diaspora. (Jo Ji-hoon)
