Program Note
Director Cho Youngjun's second feature, Midnight Sun, reinterprets the 2006 Japanese original in a Korean setting. It tells the story of Mi-sol, a girl with xeroderma pigmentosum, and Min-jun, a fruit vendor, as they fall in love and chase dreams of becoming a singer and an actor. While the original focused on first love and loss, this film highlights youth clinging to their dreams in darkness. Jung Ziso brings delicate emotion and a clear voice, while Cha Hakyeon impresses in his natural screen debut. Lee Chanhyuk¡¯s music deepens the film¡¯s emotional tone. (Jo Ji-hoon)
This film is screened with the support of KOFIC, the Korea Lottery Commission, and the Korea Association of the Deaf.
