Synopsis

It¡¯s been a long time since Kang-hee last slept with her husband. One day, her mother-in-law tells her she had a conception dream. Though Kang-hee is certain she¡¯s not pregnant, an unshakable sense of anxiety begins to creep in.

Program Note

Pregnancy is sustained by women's sacrifices, as the process of erasing oneself for the baby yet to be born becomes inevitable. For those not yet ready to become mothers, it may be less a blessing and more a nightmare. Hold me tight depicts the turmoil of a flight attendant facing unexpected pregnancy just before her promotion exam. The use of unsettling music and spreading mold on a leaking ceiling subtly hints at the anxieties of pregnancy. The film questions how societal norms and male prejudice contribute to pregnancy denial, with Kim Yebyeol powerfully conveying fear and anxiety through her nuanced performance. (Ho Jun Lee)
