Synopsis
Music and nature rely on diversity, harmony, and balance. When pushed too far, they begin to unravel. In this performance film, a string quartet becomes a living metaphor for ecosystems under strain. As unseen forces tighten their strings, the tension builds, echoing the fragile tipping points of our planet. Through Greek mythology, dance, and classical music, this piece explores the fine line between resilience and collapse.
Program Note
Musicians play a string quartet. Suddenly, a man in a suit and shoes intrudes barefoot among them, threatening the violin strings as he moves precariously between players. This film blends music, Greek mythology, dance, and classical performance, with the music's balance deliberately teetering on the edge. The performance itself takes precedence over the music, with the tightening and breaking of strings symbolizing environmental tension. The film's music represents our ecosystem; like a quartet's harmony, breaking one string triggers collapse, heightening tension. Replacing serious classical performance with a warning of ecological crisis, the gradual breakdown of the music adds urgency. (Kim Songhee)
