Minhyeong, a musician working in Mullae-dong, is preparing to move out after failing to renew his lease. One day, he meets Jee-an, a welder, and as they grow closer, he begins to write the final track of his album.
Program Note
Mullae-dong has transformed into a unique space where art and industry coexist, as artists gathered in the steel factory alleys. Building on a documentary perspective of metalworkers engrossed in welding, the film weaves in imagined characters Minhyeong and Jee-an to develop the story. While affordable rents and a distinctive atmosphere attracted artists, Mullae-dong's rise as a 'hip neighborhood' led to redevelopment and rent increases, shrinking the working spaces for struggling musicians. Metalworkers illuminated the space for the artists. The lyrics of singer-songwriter Kim Ildu blend exquisitely with the mood of this place. (Lim Sae-eun)
