Synopsis
Following a radio DJ's voice, Won-gyeong joins an audition to become part of the national dance team for a world tour. Amid dancers chasing their own desires, she fights pressure to live as Lee Won-gyeong—not Ri Won-gyeong—and advances through three rounds. One, two, three, four. Two, two, three four. Will Won-gyeong pass the audition?
Program Note
Through the audition journey of Won-gyeong, a North Korean defector and former member of the Mansudae Dance Troupe, the film skillfully layers themes of identity, belonging, and social prejudice onto the stage of dance and music. Her effort to erase her North Korean accent is not merely language correction but a struggle against bias and discrimination. Amid the dazzling performances and tense interview scenes, the film questions whether being a defector should determine one's qualification as a representative artist of Korea. The audition scenes offer a visually captivating experience. (Lim Sae-eun)
