Synopsis
Jung Soo-yeon, a first-year elementary school teacher, experiences an absurd situation after school when she gets trapped on the school rooftop by her 5th-grade students' pranks. The children lock the rooftop door, mock Soo-yeon, and leave, and Soo-yeon tries to call for help in the empty school but no one is there.
Program Note
This film portrays the collapsing authority in Korean education through the symbolic event of an elementary school teacher trapped on the rooftop. The young teacher finds herself cornered with no escape. Though the bell rings and class ends, the reality of a teacher who cannot leave work is summarized in the opening scenes. Soo-yeon, the teacher, gazes anxiously at 44 unread messages from parents and throws a black ribbon she wore on her chest into the trash. The children's actions were mere pranks, and the parents are simply worried about their children. Balancing ideals and reality from the teacher's perspective, the film makes a dual yet clever choice.
