Program Note
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is the theatrical installment of the Twin Peaks series, which became a cultural touchstone and a matrix for television mystery series like The X-Files. In this film, David Lynch returns us to the small American town of Twin Peaks, where Laura Palmer is still alive. The rules structuring the town begin to reveal subtle cracks under Lynch's camera. Alongside Laura Palmer, we encounter unfamiliar images and sounds that unexpectedly emerge from the windows of middle-class American homes, alleyways, and bushes, immersing us in the mystery and nightmare of Lynch's world—a realm from which we are trapped and unable to escape.
