From humble origins as a London fringe theater play to its meteoric rise as the biggest cult film of all time, this is the definitive story of The Rocky Horror Show. With intimate access to its creator Richard O¡¯Brien and other major players, the documentary explores what makes the play and film so singular: Its groundbreaking and transgressive themes, iconic performances and epic songs that took over popular culture.
Program Note
Richard O'Brien, who wrote the screenplay and music and played the alien Riff Raff, appears as skinny and hip as ever. Directed by his son, Linus O'Brien, the film fascinatingly explores the making of the musical The Rocky Horror Show, which premiered in London in 1973, its cult phenomenon, and the stories that followed. The Rocky Horror Picture Show sparked radical changes in the art world, the women's movement, and LGBTQ culture of its time. Tim Curry, in a wheelchair belt, says, "Reality is a construct of imagination." To those who have embarked on the strange journey of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, "Reality is a construct of film." Now, it is time once again for the time warp. (Kim Taeyong)
