From his poor childhood to his rise to fame, from his triumphs to his failures, from Paris to New York, discover the exceptional journey of an artist. Intimate, intense, fragile and indestructible, devoted to his art until the very end, here is one of the most immortal singers of all time: Monsieur Aznavour.
Program Note
Charles Aznavour, born in 1924 to Armenian immigrant parents, was France's most iconic chanson singer, performing for over 70 years until his death in 2018 at 94. He also appeared in over 60 films, including Shoot the Piano Player(1960) and The Tin Drum(1988). Made for his 100th anniversary, this film traces key moments of his life in a mosaic structure—his childhood with music and acting, his start as a singer, and his breakthrough from Édith Piaf¡¯s songwriter to solo artist. Tahar Rahim perfectly captures Aznavour's voice and presence, paired with a celebration of his timeless songs. (Chun Jin-su)
