Synopsis
Soie, a dance instructor, is preparing for a performance with her beginner-level students. As she gets to know them, she begins to choreograph a piece inspired by the personal reasons each of them has for dancing.
Program Note
What begins as a question about dancing unfolds into an attitude toward life and a way of facing existence. Dance instructor Soie says, "Even a dance known only to me has meaning." But can dance that fails to communicate with others still hold meaning? Every story starts with the self. Dance is the act of embodying thoughts and emotions and letting them flow. Sometimes this reaches others, sometimes not. Soie creates choreography from each student's story. Thus, A Dance That Speaks is born, becoming an act of healing and liberation. The film expresses this process through an accessible language of the body. (Lim Sae-eun)
