Chungcheong Philharmonic Orchestra is a leading orchestra in Chungbuk (Chungcheongbuk-do Province), active across a wide range of fields including classical music, musicals, opera, and various provincial arts and culture festivals.
Under the direction of Conductor Lee Kang-hee, the orchestra members strive to broaden the audience for classical music in Chungbuk. They achieve this by providing diverse cultural experiences for the province's residents and by creating synergy through collaborations with other genres.
Having achieved remarkable growth year after year since its founding with an ever-deepening and richer repertoire, Chungcheong Philharmonic Orchestra will continue to evolve and endeavor to be an orchestra that deeply moves the people of Chungbuk through music.
Director Chung Hongsub is a highly accomplished director who majored in Opera Direction at the Korea National University of Arts and is currently a doctoral candidate in Art Studies at Sungkyunkwan University. Combining theory and practice through a versatile career—which includes training at the Broadway Dance Center in N.Y., working as a guest actor for the National Theater Company of Korea, and being a member of the Seoul Performing Arts Company—he has firmly established himself as a multi-talented director in both practical and academic fields. Currently, he is the CEO of the (H)Art Project and dedicates himself to education as an adjunct professor at Konyang University and a visiting professor at Tongmyong University.
He has built a unique artistic identity by directing, adapting, and serving as an acting coach for over 70 productions with leading Korean institutions like the National Theater Company and the Seoul Metropolitan Opera. Notably, he led the Republic of Korea Air Force team to its first-ever Grand Prize at the 5th Minister of National Defense Award Military Chorus Competition as General Director. With a broad artistic spectrum spanning theater, opera, and musicals, he continues to create deeply moving and thrilling performances for audiences as a professional music theater director.
Conductor Lee Kanghee is a maestro who leads the Chungbuk music scene with his profound skill and meticulous artistic interpretation. He is a graduate of Chung-Ang University and the CUNY Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, and he completed the advanced orchestral conducting program at the prestigious Petrozavodsk State Conservatory in Russia, known for producing world-class conductors. His commitment to artistic growth is evident in his continuous participation in masterclasses, including those in Gorzow Wielkopolski and Szczecin, Poland.
With an exceptional passion for orchestras, he has founded numerous ensembles—including the Chungcheong Philharmonic Orchestra, CJB Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Cheongju Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Chungju City Orchestra—providing diverse cultural and artistic opportunities for the residents of the Chungbuk region. He is also a dedicated music educator, developing programs for competitions like the CBS National Music Competition to nurture the next generation of classical musicians.
His distinguished career includes guest conducting renowned orchestras at home and abroad, such as the Volgograd Philharmonic Orchestra, Glazunov Symphony Orchestra, Szczecin Chamber Orchestra, Chungbuk Provincial Symphony Orchestra, and Cheongju Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also demonstrated outstanding ability in conducting operas like The Magic Flute, Rigoletto, and Cavalleria Rusticana. In recognition of his remarkable achievements, he has received the City of Volgograd Culture and Arts Award, the Korean Music Award, the Chungbuk Arts Merit Award, and the Cheongju City Arts Award. As the conductor of the Chungcheong Philharmonic Orchestra and Chungju City Orchestra, he continues to captivate audiences with his innovative programming, dynamic leadership, and heartfelt performances.
