Synopsis

Monsieurs Richard and Moncharmin have recently bought Paris Opera House, where the retiring manager warns them that they may hear stories about the Opera Ghost who always sits in Box 5. The new owners laugh at such childishness, but soon strange incidents begin to occur. Joseph Buquet, a stagehand, has seen the Phantom, and describes him as a faceless man with no nose. One evening, Carlotta, the prima donna of the opera, is mysteriously taken ill and her role is played by Christine.

  • 루퍼트 줄리안(1879~1943)은 뉴질랜드의 첫 영화배우이자 감독 겸 극작가, 제작자였다. 그는 뉴질랜드에서 연기 활동을 하다가 1911년 미국으로 이민을 갔다. 1915년 감독으로 데뷔한 그는 <카이저>와 <베를린의 야수>로 많은 성공을 거두었고 할리우드의 스타가 되었다. 1924년 <오페라의 유령>을 연출했지만 개봉 직전 작품에서 손을 뗐고, 64세의 나이로 할리우드에서 사망했다.
