- Australian-born Alan Hicks was a drummer and surfer before filming . He studied under legendary Clark Terry at William Paterson University near New York, known for its jazz program. As a student in the mid-2000s, he traveled the world as a member of the Clark Terry Ensemble and began shooting his first feature-length documentary.
