Synopsis

Formed in 1997, Huckleberryfinn is an iconic Korean indie band that has been credited with proving the value of Korea's indie music scene. They have earned recognition through the Korean Music Awards and have been featured in the list of 100 Greatest Korean Popular Music Albums. This video follows the band's frontman, Lee Ki-yong, through interviews and his daily activities, exploring Huckleberryfinn's recent music and band activities, as well as discussing the current state and future of rock music.

Program Note

Huckleberryfinn, a first-generation indie rock band that debuted in 1998, is the focus of this documentary. The film candidly explores the current lives and musical journey of the band. After the band's leader, Lee Kiyong, honestly admits, "Fewer people listen to our music now than before," the documentary takes a straightforward approach in portraying their present-day lives and music. The band’s attitude of continuing to make music, avoiding cheap nihilism, and simply persisting in what they do resonates deeply with ordinary viewers, who also continue their everyday lives. The film is also appealing for its concert sequences, where viewers can experience the band’s iconic tracks from their first to seventh albums, as if attending a live performance. (Park Got)

  • Lee So-young is the vocalist of Huckleberryfinn, one of Korea's premier indie bands. She debuted in 2000 with the band's song Desert, featured on the soundtrack of the film Island(2000) and has been the band's frontwoman for over 20 years. Huckleberryfinn has long been recognized for their musical excellence, winning the ‘Korean Music Award’ for Modern Rock Album and being selected as one of ‘The 100 Greatest Korean Popular Music Albums’. From 2014 to 2021, Lee worked as a music director and sound mixer for several short films. In 2022, she also directed and edited music videos for Huckleberryfinn's seventh album.
