Synopsis

"If Bach were born again, he would have definitely become a bandoneon player." These are the words of Argentina’s leading bandoneon player, composer, and 'the successor of Piazzolla,' Rodolfo Mederos. Born in 1940, Mederos taught himself how to play the bandoneon, went on to perform in Astor Piazzolla's orchestra, and later created a unique musical world that sparked a new wave in Tango with his own ensembles, Generacion Cero and Orquesta Tipica. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, he has always regarded the city as his ‘muse.’ His bandoneon performance carries the music imprints of his life and his hometown. His music not only embraces the traditions of Tango but also the present and future of the genre, presenting a journey through time. The maestro’s interview, in which he expresses his deep affection for the ‘breathing instrument’, the bandoneon, and for Tango, truly portrays the life of an artist and serves as a testament to how the beautiful landscapes of Argentina, including Buenos Aires, are reborn into music. Furthermore, the true focus of this film is the sorrowful Tango music played by Mederos himself. (Chun Jin-su)
