Synopsis

The 1970s in Korea was a dark era under military dictatorship, but also a time of revolutionary pop culture led by passionate youth. After drifting through rundown clubs in a U.S. military base town, singer Sang-kyu and guitarist Man-sik form a rock band called "Devils" with four other members. They enter a rock band contest and make a splash with their provocative yet entertaining performance. Devils rise to stardom performing at a club called "Nirvana." Mimi, a groupie who had followed the band from the military town, also becomes a cultural icon with her dancing and fashion. However, their glory days are short-lived as a club fire claims one of the members. On top of that, the regime’s authoritarian crackdown forces clubs to shut down, depriving them of any chance to perform. In the face of despair, Sang-kyu prepares one final passionate concert for the Devils.

    • Choi Ho
    • Choi Ho majored in directing at Chung-Ang University's Department of Theater and Film and later earned a Master’s degree in practical cinema studies from Paris 8 University. His debut film Bye June delicately portrayed the passion and confusion of youth. With Who Are You?, he captured the emotions of people in their twenties through stylish visuals, offering a fresh take. After the intense drama Bloody Tie, praised for its sharp social insight and distinct style, he returned with Go Go 70s, once again showcasing his unique voice. Inspired by his own band experiences in school, Go Go 70s reflects his passion for music, with all performances in the film daringly done 100% live—played, sung, and recorded on set—enhancing the film's authenticity and quality.
