Synopsis

For the first time in a documentary report, Jordi Savall talks about his music and his work. The documentary painstakingly follows him during the year-long process of creating a major musical work on the notorious Borgia family. The film focuses on music in the times of the Borgia dynasty, from Pope Alexander VI and two of his children, Cesare and Lucrezia, through to Francis Borgia, Jesuit priest and, perhaps, composer. This historical and artistic backdrop draws viewers into the world of ancient music, revealing the vital role of original instruments in performing this type of music and the importance of reconstructing original scores.
