Synopsis

A musical movie called 'Rock On' is ready to be filmed. To meet the budget, the casting director, Senior Tsai, picks his actors from the rejects of an audition. These include a kid from Hong Kong, who can both write and sing, and LaReine, a snappy girl who can dance hip-hop to the top. Also, Tsai calls up Johnny, who used to be the hottest idol, to train the new hopefuls. Johnny eagerly hopes this movie will be his comeback moment. Striving for the best dancing performance, Johnny calls for the help of his past crew, Tiger, who’s now a professional and exclusive choreographer for big stars. Gradually, under Tiger’s regimented requests, everybody reaches a professional standard of performance.

  • Hong Kong filmmaker Lawrence Lau was born in South Africa. His previous works, such as *Gangs* (1986), *Spec Out* (2000), and *Kimmi Kimmi* (2001), mainly focused on issues of youth. He also addressed regional issues of Hong Kong and problems in the military in films like *Queen of Temple Street* (1990) and the *Re-Lock* series (1991). He has been nominated twice for Best Director at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
