Synopsis

​ It’s a documentary following the life and music of Miriam Makeba who protested apartheid in South Africa. She was expelled because she denunciated the miserable reality of South Africa in a documentary Come Back, Africa in 1959, which had the message of incessant opposition to racism and poverty in the music based on the tradition of South Africa. Through her family and colleagues’ words, Mama Africa shows her long journey from the time when she had made her first performance in a dancehall in S.A. to her last one in Italy, November, 2008, after which she broke down and passed away at the age of 76.

  • 1955년 핀란드 출생. 1977년에서 81년 독일 뮌헨에서 영화를 전공했고 80년 졸업 작품 <라이어>를 제작했다. 당시 언론을 공부하는 동생 아키 카우리스마키가 주연을 맡고 극본 작업도 함께 했다. 2008년 <세 명의 현자들>로 상을 받았고, 2009년 <분기하는 사랑의 집>으로 토론토국제영화제에 초대받았다.
