Synopsis

​African American singer Carole Alston came to Vienna 30 years ago. The research for a new stage production brings her back to her homeland where she follows the traces of her musical sisters Alberta Hunter, Nina Simone, and Sarah Vaughan. The search for the origins of blues and jazz brings Carole closer to her own roots. The history of slavery and segregated America becomes palpable through the music and the remarkable stories about the brave women who defied the hardship of their times..

  • Stefano Domanighi, born in 1967 in Italy, is a director and screenwriter. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Since 2000, he has worked as a freelance director, directing feature films and documentaries for broadcasters such as ORF, ZDF, and ARTE.
