Synopsis

Pansori singer Yu-bong, his daughter Song-hwa and his drum student whom he took in Dong-ho. Director Im Kwon-taek’s representative film portraying the mournful story of these three characters. It is the first film to deal with Korean traditional music Pansori and it is evaluated to have successfully implemented the sentiment of “Han” on screen. It gathered one million audiences in Danseongsa, Seoul only when it was released. In particular, music director Kim Su-cheol not only included existing Pansori such as “Chunhyangga” and “Shimcheongga,” but also incorporated orig-inal scores such as “Cheonnyeonhak” and “Sori-gil”, revealing his love for Korean traditional music.

  • 임권택 감독은 1936년 전라남도 장성에서 태어나 1962년 <두만강아 잘 있거라>로 데뷔한 뒤 2014년 <화장>까지 100편이 넘는 영화를 만들었다. 대표작으로 <만다라>(1981), <씨받이>(1986), <서편제>(1993)를 비롯하여 2000년 칸 영화제에 초청된 <춘향뎐>, 2002년 칸 영화제에서 감독상을 수상한 <취화선> 등이 있다. 2005년 베를린영화제에서 평생공로상인 명예 황금곰상을 받으며 세계적인 거장으로 인정받았다.
