Synopsis

'The Conductor' is based on the true story of the Dutch born Antonia Brico. In the late 1920’s, Antonia aspires to become the first woman to lead an orchestra but after she arouses the interest of Frank she is torn between ambition and love. She flees to Holland, where conductor Mengelberg tells her to see Karl Muck, who gets her accepted into the Berlin State Academy. Her debut is a success but the resulting furore forces her to return to the US, where the bias against women musicians inspires her to start a female orchestra.

  • ​마리아 피터스는 법학을 전공한 뒤 단편 <모든 새는 날고>를 만들며 네덜란드 필름 아카데미를 졸업했다. 이후 그녀는 알렉스 판 바르메르담 감독의 <아벨>을 비롯한 몇 편의 영화에서 조감독으로 활동했다. 그녀가 연출한 여러 작품 중에서도 <소니 보이>를 비롯한 세 편의 작품은 지난 20년 동안 가장 큰 성공을 거둔 20편의 영화에 여전히 이름을 올리며 그녀를 네덜란드의 대표적인 감독과 시나리오 작가로 자리매김하고 있다.
