Program Note

Helmut Lachenmann is a representative composer of Musique Concrete of modern music in the 21st century. He inherits the traditions of Boulez, Messien and Stockhausen, but unlike them who recorded actual sound and combined it with music, his working is one of a kind by breaking branches on stage, bowing on cymbals and Styrofoam and tapping brass. His music had a profound influence from his teacher Luigi Nono. The film asks him what music and life mean to him, who is now in his 80s. (HWANG Deokho)
