Program Note

A woman sets foot in a rural town in south France. She is welcomed by ‘Fred’ and ‘Bertie’, a couple whose demeanors bear a subtle and uncomfortable tension. At first, the story appears driven by a heterosexual love triangle, but such traditional expectations are destroyed as the film explores the possibility of polyamory. The screenplay does not just focus on tuning a heterosexual plot into a homosexual one. The story delves into the wounds and obsession that derive from relationships, compulsion, addiction, and the (im)possibility of love. Such emotions are skillfully controlled and beautifully captured onscreen with the aid of the film’s impressive score. (MAENG Soojin)
