Program Note
Icelandic Industrial music band ‘Hatari’ means ‘Hater’ in Icelandic. Which is only fitting as their music posits a strong distaste for authority and aims to confront society in all its rigid forms. Hatari is a self-declared anti-capitalist band who decide to perform in Tel Aviv at 2019’s Eurovision Song Contest, one that ironically represents capitalism within music industry. Performing in Israel, the band are vocal in their support for Palestinian’s and condemn the apartheid its people are currently facing. Will their voices be heard? The band have been praised by some and criticized by others for their agenda. With regards this documentary however, it is up to the viewer to judge them however they will. Regardless, the band’s message is loud and clear – that we should ‘rise in unity’ to fight against hate or else ‘hate will prevail’. (LEE Yongchul)
