Program Note
There’s no grand meaning in life. Moments of hanging pile up and become a life. When a laborer who was laid off from the guitar factory that he had worked at for 30 years started a protest, he probably didn’t anticipate it would last this long. The setting for Sister J is the struggle of a former Cortek worker to get his job back but the film focuses more on the character. The 4,464 days of protest and solidarity are filled with artistic ventures rather than anger. The film takes a different look at the simple truth that ‘people live here’ in observational way.
