Program Note

Doris, a singer manager from a Mexican-American immigrant family, and her new client, Jax, an aspiring singer. Both women's musical success is tied to their families' legal status. The struggles of the 21st-century American dream and their intense dreams of music are intertwined, and they take a difficult step forward today. Throughout the film, the audience hears Doris's poignant and poetic inner confessions in voiceover, witnesses Jax's most intimate moments as he crumbles under the weight of his family's loss, and affectionately cheers them on.
