Program Note
There's a conductor who gets his palm carved on Hollywood's Walk of Fame and is asked for autographs by hundreds of children. He's Gustavo Dudamel, a violinist from El Sistema, a youth music education program in Venezuela, and an internationally successful conductor. He leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, and is always looking for ways to use the influence of classical stars constructively. In his homeland, which is still unstable, he wants to bear witness to hope through his music. This documentary tells the story of an artist's transformation into a leader, but also offers the thrill of watching a dynamic orchestral performance. (Nam Sunwoo)
