Synopsis

Dutch-Caribbean Shabu lives in the notorious neighborhood of Paperclip in Rotterdam South. Here, all the residents help each other. Shabu needs that help this summer when he has a big hurdle to overcome. His grandmother crashed her car while she was on vacation. Shabu has to put his music career aside and earn money to repair the car.

Program Note

Shabu is a 14-year-old African boy living with his extended family in the Pepperklaip neighborhood of Rotterdam. One day, while driving his grandmother's car, he causes an accident and is forced to spend his entire summer vacation earning money to fix it. He comes up with the idea of throwing a party with his own music and charging admission, and along the way, he learns the hardships of everyday life and the impermanence of life. Still, he has family and friends by his side who share his struggles with life and art. The afro rhythm that runs through the movie will immerse the viewer in the movie and add to their enjoyment.
