Synopsis

A South Korean woman with dreams of becoming a musician embarks on a solo pilgrimage across the country. In front of a secluded beach in Jeju, she meets a Frenchman who has traveled all the way to Jeju to meet his girlfriend but is returning home without her. The two men are of different nationalities and speak different languages. The only thing they have in common is that they speak English. Through their conversation, they look at each other and confront the most important memories of their lives.

Program Note

Sometimes the strangest people say the most intimate things in the strangest languages. A Korean woman traveling with her guitar meets a strange French man on Jeju Island. “What's your favorite season?” “When is the Eiffel Tower the most beautiful?” and other simple English questions and answers keep the conversation going. The woman's music interrupts their conversation, as they try to communicate in broken English. The conversation between the man and woman, combined with the lonely landscape of Jeju, makes each of them ask themselves the most important questions in life. (Songhee Kim)
