Synopsis
Camille, an aspiring rapper who longs for professional success and a solid foundation for his life, wanders the city, always high on drugs. He begins an affair with Iwana, a housewife who finds oblivion and solace in antidepressants because of a marriage that makes her feel invisible. The film tells a multi-layered story of isolated people searching for love in a big city. Based on the best-selling novel by Polish cult author Dorota Masławska.
Program Note
This is the feature debut of Polish female director Aleksandra Terpinska. It is a kind of hip-hop musical movie in which almost all of the dialog is set to hip-hop beats and rap rhythms, and a rapper who resembles Jesus with a crown of thorns appears as the narrator and drives the entire story through rap. Filled with upbeat freestyle raps and sensual, rhythmic, yet grotesque images, the film captures the loneliness and everyday life of the unfortunate people living in the cold city of Warsaw through the absurdity of the daily lives of Camille, an aspiring rapper who wants to live a better life but dreams of a dream that will never be fulfilled, and the people around her.
