Program Note
In Beirut, Lebanon, there's a thrash metal band called Slave to Sirens that's been around for seven years. All five members are women, making them the first all-female metal band in the Middle East. Sirens, a feature-length documentary that premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, tells the story of this extraordinary band. Focusing on two of the band's core members, Lilas and Sherry, the film explores their intimate personal stories of friendship, sexuality, and identity, as well as the complex political and social realities of Lebanon as they strive to become a household name.
