Program Note
"The first time I saw this movie was in 2000. I love actors like Michael Caine, Lee Marvin, and Gene Hackman, and I like to look up their work. I happened to see Michael Caine's filmography and was curious about this movie. The late 60s and early 70s were the big bang of pop culture, and I love the movies that came out during that time. It was a time when great musicians like Lalo Shifrin and Quincy Jones were active, and Roy Byrd, the composer of this film, is lesser known than them, but I think Get Carter 1971 is one of the most important jazz film scores of the 70s, along with William Friedkin's The French Connection and Peter Yates' Bullet. It's a personal favorite of mine." (Youngwook Cho)
