Synopsis

Lee Sun-ho is a shamanic researcher at a private university in Seoul. When he is rejected three times in a row, he travels to Jeju Island in search of a new subject for his research. There, he meets Ahn Hae-ri, a female simbang (shaman) who can hear the sounds of intangible cultural assets despite her young age, and he enters the mosque Somi to study her. Hae-hyun gradually opens up to her.

A researcher who has been rejected for a professorship three times visits a young shaman on Jeju Island to study the island's shamanism. Sexual tension quickly develops between the two, but despite the melodramatic title, the film gradually takes on an eerie quality. Made with the consultation of Seo Soon-sil Simbang, a Jeju Big Good intangible cultural property holder, “My Goddess” goes beyond materialism to recreate traditional shamanism in depth, especially the musical and dance aspects of the Good. The sleek and charismatic presence of actress Sohn Soo-hyun, who plays Simbang, is mesmerizing. (Somi Kim)
