Synopsis

A movie about the life of country music legend Johnny Cash, from his days on a cotton farm in Arkansas to his rise to fame with Sun Records in Memphis, USA. The movie chronicles the life of Johnny Cash, who went on to record with Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins.

"I'm not a big fan of biopics. If there's one exception, it's this movie, Encore. The incredible performances of Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon take this movie to a whole new level. But most of the credit has to go to the director, James Mangold. The movie is so realistic that you can't take your eyes off of it, instead of being pulled out of it. And the two lead actors sing and act with authenticity, not mere impersonations." (Mike Figgis)
