Synopsis
A documentary about heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio. It takes an in-depth look at his life, from singing slow doo-wop songs in the 50s, to his early classic rock days in Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, to succeeding his idol Ozzy Osbourne as lead singer of Black Sabbath, and finally to his incredible rise to cement his own legend. Ronnie's story is a far cry from the sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll clichés. It's a story of perseverance, dreams, and the power of believing in yourself.
Program Note
This is a biographical documentary about the legendary rock singer Ronnie James Dio, who died in 2010. He was influenced by early American rock music as a teenager, and in the 1970s and 1980s he was the lead singer of heavy metal bands Elvis, Black Sabbath, and Rainbow, and finally formed his eponymous band, Dio. Through interviews with his wife, his former bandmates, and other people close to him, the film discusses his musical world and values.
