Synopsis

Gwangju Theater was the first theater in the Honam region founded by Koreans in 1933, and opened in 1935 as a single-screen theater that still shows movies in the same location today. Seven musicians, invited by musician Choi Choi Eun to share their views of Gwangju, visit Gwangju Theater to speak and sing about their own experiences of “enduring and existing. The film also tells the story of Park Tae-kyu, a painter who has been painting the Gwangju Theater's hand signs from the 1990s to today.

Program Note

In an old theater, musicians reminisce about old memories of the theater. Memories of the first movies they saw in the theater, which films they grew up watching, and which directors' work inspires them. The camera pans across the old theater to the musicians' faces and they begin to sing “My Song” in the theater. 'Enduring and Existing' is set in the Gwangju Theater, which opened in 1935, and intercuts interviews and performances by musicians such as Kim Il Du, Kim Sa Wol, Kwak Blue Sky, and Firefly Star Soseji Club. The movie documents and sings about the long-lasting “endurance and existence” of space and music. (Songhee Kim)
