Synopsis

Muna, a teenage girl of Somali descent living in the UK, is desperate to go on a school trip, but her parents are skeptical about it. When her grandfather in Somalia passes away, a tragedy unfolds, and Muna is forced into a confusing period of mourning for a man she barely knew. Amid it all, she tries to persuade her mother to let her join the school trip.

Program Note

is a charming short film that explores the identity struggles often faced by second-generation immigrants. Muna, a British-Somali girl, is confused and upset by the fact that her grandfather’s death in Somalia—someone she has never even met—might prevent her from going on a school trip. As she yearns to live her own life, Muna slowly comes to understand the meaning of family and her roots. Her emotional journey is full of ups and downs, but this small tragedy becomes an essential part of her growth. (Choi Eun-young)
