Synopsis
A year after the sudden passing of her mother, Taylor, a teenage Korean-American adoptee, grows increasingly distant from her father and begins to yearn for a connection to her birth parents. One day, a Korean family moves into her predominantly white neighborhood, and Taylor becomes friends with the mother of that family. This woman helps Taylor reconnect with her roots and supports her in uncovering the truth about her biological family.
Program Note
Taylor, a Korean adoptee struggling with the sudden loss of her mother, meets a newly moved-in Korean family next door. Their daughter, Dayoung, dreams of becoming a K-pop star, though her mother wants her to focus on academics. Feeling lost, Taylor secretly begins her journey to find her birth mother. This film reflects the autobiographical sensibilities of Korean-American director Christina YR Lim, who carries the roots of Korean heritage. While the girls strive to chase their dreams, the circumstances surrounding them often hold them back. A warm and empathetic portrayal of adolescent emotions and the search for identity. (Choi Eun-young)
