Synopsis

B-girl Joanna and B-boy Serhat share a deep passion for breaking. For the first time, breaking will become an official event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While it’s exciting to introduce breaking to a wider audience, adapting its unique culture to the Olympic system is a significant challenge. Originating as a new dance style in 1970s New York, breaking has now become a competitive battle judged by a panel. As it transitions from the streets to the Olympic stage, breaking meets the Olympics for the first time in history. Amid constant outside interference, what can these dancers do to stay true to their passion for breaking?

Program Note

“Breaking is my life!” The 2024 Paris Olympics will feature breakdancing as an official event for the first time. Street B Fighter follows the journey of Serhat, a breaker from Dresden, and Joanna, a dancer from Munich, as they prepare for one of the biggest challenges in sports: competing in the Olympics. Set to a soundtrack of hip-hop beats, the film dazzles with spectacular jumps and acrobatics, but behind the flashy moves is a sincere portrait of two breakers who must face defeat, academic and career pressures, and family concerns—all while trying to carve out their own paths.
