Synopsis
Maurizio, a rocker who once dominated the music scene in the '90s, embarks on a journey to Latin America in a desperate attempt to reignite his passion for music. Though their unexpected collaboration doesn’t lead to commercial success, their quixotic journey will be remembered as a soulful and meaningful pursuit of artistic connection.
Program Note
Maurizio, the frontman of a rock band based in Zaragoza, Spain, is in a creative slump. Leaving behind a chaotic personal life and a faltering music career, he sets off to Argentina to trace the footsteps of a revered musician. There, he finds a new mentor who reignites his musical spirit. Blue Star takes the form of a classic road movie but stands out with its documentary-like touch. The film gently captures the warmth of rural Argentina, the humble beauty of folk music, and the peaceful connections Maurizio forms with the locals. Actor and musician Pepe Lorente’s naturalistic performance allows the serenity of his character’s journey to quietly seep into the hearts of viewers. (Choi Eun-young)
